"Evaluating the Impact of Drop Boxes and Get-Out-The Vote Campaigns on Voter Turnout"

We’re currently building on our King County study to examine the impact of additional ballot drop boxes in Pierce County, Washington. Pierce County has over 800,000 residents and is Washington’s second largest county.  The county currently has 36 drop boxes, and will add five more before the 2017 general election.  Will these new installations increase turnout?  Do advertising campaigns about their location help  turn out the vote?  Who uses them and which boxes do people use?  Our study will examine these and related questions.  We’re happy to collaborate with the Pierce County Auditor’s office on this study, which is financed by a grant from MIT’s Election Data and Science Lab.
